It’s truly the most rewarding experience

Nikki and Ryan were approved as first time carers for Fitzgerald 6 months ago.  Knowing how helpful it can be to hear from others about their fostering experience, here Nikki and Ryan share their story.

“Fostering is always something we have thought about even before we had our own children, and when our children had started school we felt it was the best time for us to start the process.  We chose Fitzgerald Fostering after meeting with another carer who recommended them to us and I am thrilled we decided to go with them.”

“Preparation for fostering was guided a lot by our amazing social worker Yvie, who was assigned to us from the very beginning of the process.  We attended a three day Skills to Foster course which really secured our decision to go ahead and apply, and we then had the assessment process which takes a few months but we had support the whole way through with Yvie and the Fitzgerald team.”

“On the day of our Foster Panel we were very nervous but that soon subsided when we saw all the warm and lovely faces greet us as we walked in the room.  It ended up being a really lovely experience.”

“We had our first child arrive 10 weeks after our panel.  We were quite detailed on what we needed for a match due to our young birth children at home, and the agency went above and beyond in making sure we were comfortable.  It worked brilliantly as our first young person has fitted in so perfectly with our family.”

“The reality of fostering isn’t much different to what I was expecting.  I knew with the right match it could be amazing and honestly it’s exactly that.  It’s truly the most rewarding experience seeing the child thrive, learn, grow, flourish and best of all the beaming smiles and deep tummy giggles! Of course we have had some tough days but the joy we get from our little person outweighs it all.”
