The Fitzgerald Foundation is a registered charity that aims to offer practical support to children in foster care as they begin the challenging transition into adulthood.
Funded by Fitzgerald Fostering, widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading Independent Fostering Agencies, the Foundation was born from the realisation that whilst many children in foster households will receive outstanding care and support up until they are 18, support can be harder to come by after that age, even though this is when many young adults previously in foster care will need it most.
The Fitzgerald Foundation offers a range of practical and financial support to young adults in foster care when they need it most. A new suit for an interview. A specific training course to help employment prospects. Train tickets or an overnight stay as part of an interview process. Help with the deposit on rented accommodation. These are just some of the ways that the charity aims to support children in foster care and build on their positive experiences from fostering as they enter adulthood. Most of all it is about ensuring that they have access to the same opportunities as their peers and can move into the next phase of their lives with confidence.
In the first instance The Fitzgerald Foundation helps those young adults currently cared for by the company’s own foster carers, but where that is not possible then the Foundation will make donations to similar charities that work with children who are about to leave foster care and enter the adult world. Either way, our aim is to be with our foster carers and their foster children all the way.
